Why The Mask?

When I am out getting groceries or filling up at the gas station, yes, I wear a mask. I have not been out to any large gatherings in quite a long time, but I wear a mask there too. I have heard the comments as I go by, yes, I can hear you, you really should keep them to yourself.

I have been back on chemotherapy once again since January. Chemotherapy kills the cancer cells, but it also wipes out good cells too. That is why I have very thin hair and I have paper-thin fingernails.

I am immune compromised. What immune system I do have is extremely weak. The mask may not keep all germs away from me, but it is a bit of a barrier protecting me. I have seen other cancer patients out running errands, too, wearing masks. I have avoided family members when they are sick with a cold or the flu. I have avoided basketball games, instead, I have watched my nephew on the internet. Hopefully, once we get closer to summer and many of the "crud" germs are gone, I can ditch the mask.

Until then, please respect me for wearing a mask. I have enough bad stuff going on inside me, I am trying to protect myself. Thank you!
