The Poison is Expensive

Today is chemotherapy treatment number 5!

I am ready for another really long day. I have my snacks...Cracker Jack, chocolate dipped strawberries and banana bread. I have my lunch, leftovers from yesterday...steak and chicken that I will eat cold. I have my Hollywood gossip magazines and my fleece blanket. I am ready.

I know that muscle and joint pain will kick in about Thursday evening. I will be extremely tired all week, but hopefully I will not get sick. I have been very fortunate in that regard. The neuropathy will start to flare really bad again, I have a refill of my meds. This coming weekend I will be extremely miserable...but the end is in sight!

The chemo drugs aka poison I get is really expensive. The bill I attached does not include lab costs or the visit with the doctor, that is just from when I sit down in Infusion. But the poison is killing the cancer and is saving my life. It may be causing other issues, most that will go away in time, so I keep going. I know that once I am done with the IV portion, or the 6 major chemo treatments, my oncologist may put me on a chemo pill, I will find out later.

My treatment lasts all day. I start with labs at 7:30, I will see my Doctor at 8:15 with chemo starting at 9:15. Once I sit in my recliner I am there til 5pm or later. It gives me time to think, to pray, to dream and to rest. I have tried sleeping...no luck, but at least I am resting. I will see others, some are now familiar faces, who are getting treatment. Some of them are there only a short time, others a bit longer, I am the only one who is there all day. The long hauler of infusion...that's me! Lol.
