I am starting week 4 of my vacation or recovery time from my surgery. I gotta say, this has been the most painful experience I have had. I am taking my prescription painkiller at night and using extra-strength Tylenol the rest of the time. And add in sneezing, coughing or just simply moving causes pain too.
My incision is healing up nicely. The staples are out I have spots that are not 100% closed yet, but real close. I do my best to keep my 2 cats off of my stomach, they like to kneed my stomach. I push them down to my legs, but if I fall asleep, I wake up with both of them on my stomach.
When I went in for labs and to get my staples out, I needed a wheelchair, I was just too weak. My doctor sent me upstairs for fluids to help me. Last week I also had the home health community paramedic come in and gave me more fluids. The heavy dose of chemotherapy that I had during my surgery has really messed with me.
I have been doing small tasks at home, moving around more to build up my stamina. I finally had 2 nights in a row where I didn't wake up from pain and need more meds. So that is a positive. I can also tell that muscles and nerves that were cut are starting to heal or wake up, as I get shooting pains that last for about 30 seconds and it just stops me cold in my tracks. Those just strike whenever they feel like it.
My family and friends have been great, checking on me, getting me groceries and making sure I am ok. I am going to try for a short outing or errand this week. Something simple like driving to Taco Johns for a taco, using drive thru and back home. Just to see how much that tires me out. I will start small.
I am looking forward to being pain free, I know it will happen, it just takes time.
