Slather on the Sunblock!

With the nicer weather we are getting outside more. It is important to remember to put on sunblock. I myself forget at times and I really don't like wearing hats. But we must protect ourselves from possible skin cancer or Melanoma.

Melanoma can be deadly if not dealt with. It can grow slowly and you might not notice anything until it has got a good hold of you and turns your world upside down. It is important to remember the ABCDEs of Melanoma:

The ABCDE’s of melanoma helps identify the disease condition

  • Asymmetry: The mole may not be uniform, one half looks different from the other half

  • Border irregularity: The moles may be uneven or notched

  • Color: The moles may be of different colors and irregular patterns

  • Diameter: The mole may be bigger in size, at least a 6mm size

  • Evolving: The mole may be changing colors, size and texture and might also bleed

With everything going on in my life, I have noticed a tiny dark spot under my eye. I have a lot of dark spots or melasma, as it is known, but this one is different. It burns and is crusty. I am not picking at it, I am leaving it alone. However I have reached out to my favorite dermatologist. He said he will take a look at it. I just know it is melanoma, just like I knew when my cancer came back last fall.

But on the positive, it is really small. My dermatologist will most likely remove it and any underlying skin to get it all. I have faith that I will be ok. I know I have to be more diligent in wearing sunblock and protecting myself.

I am mentally preparing myself for a little scar on my face. I am hoping I am wrong. But I will find out soon.

To Be Continued.
