Today was the annual Santa Run, benefitting RADD or Runners Against Destructive Decisions. I got involved last year and had fun, so I registered again this year. This year I was able to convince my brother Mike to join me.
I did the Ultra Cool Mile again, while he did the 5k. I know my body is not able at this point in time to do a 5k, not even walking, so I stick with the mile. I jogged some, and I walked more, but I was out there.
Tuesday I had an oncology appointment with Dr. Sara, my Dr is on vacation. Last year at this time when I saw Dr. Sara, she ordered scans that came back with bad news. Well, my cancer marker # is really high again, but past scans have been clear, so Dr. Sara ordered a PET scan. I will be having that on Dec. 20. I had my Keytruda infusion on Tuesday and I am back on my Lenvima chemo pills at night. So far, I have only been really tired and fatigued. This morning my insides were churning, but I told my body to behave until noon, then, go ahead and be difficult, just not this morning during the race.
Judge David Reich, who started RADD years ago, spoke briefly before the start of the race. He started RADD to help people struggling with various addictions or law troubles as a way to focus on something healthy. The group runs every Saturday morning. Money raised helps get running shoes and other things that help those runners. Today those runners, worked this event, cheering on runners, directing runners thru the course, and handing out finisher medals. He said today there were just over 800 runners. This event has grown each year.
Halfway around the loop at the Capital grounds, it was tough for me to breathe. So I just walked slower and kept reminding myself, "you had chemo on Tuesday, you are ok". I am my own cheerleader..talking to myself when things are hard. I thought about all the helpers, they are fighting their own battles and they are out here too.
I crossed the finish line, got my medal, and waited for my brother Mike. I saw lots of friends out taking part, all dressed like Santa. It was a beautiful morning. Mike crossed the finish line and we went and got refreshments.
I am tired, but I feel good. I have more tests this month but I will get through them. I will jingle all the way!!
