It's just hair!

I had my first dose of chemo 2 weeks ago. My hair started coming out in handfuls on Friday. I knew it was going to come out. I have been looking at wigs, and fleece caps. I put away my ponytail holders and barrettes. I was getting ready.

My scalp has been hurting for a few days. Last night, laying my head on the pillowill w even hurt. But I knew it was from my hair starting to come out. I would pull handfuls out when I put it up in a ponytail to go out to the hot tub. More would come out when I took the ponytail out.

So today my friend Rhonda came over with a clippers to shave it. She was surprised how full my bathroom trashcan was from what I pulled out. Rhonda said, "that is what I have on my head now". Yeah...lots had come out already. I put it in 4 ponytails first, she shaved those off. Then she shaved my head. We laughed over each moment. She left one pony and said...'take a picture, say the clipper broke'. More laughter. Then when she was done, she took a lint roller to my head for any little hairs. We laughed more. A lint roller? On my head? It did the job.

I didn't cry today. I knew it was coming. I have been preparing. My cousin Susie has sent me wigs. Three of them, each one different in color and style. I pulled my old wigs out of the cupboard. Plus I visited Merle Norman in the mall to look at more. I have scarves, but its cold now and scarves are thin. I have sequin headbands, but not for winter. I do have 2 fleece caps, soft on my head and comfy, I would like more.

I know the chemo is circulating through my body. It will take my eyebrows and eyelashes too in the next month or so. I did go buy fake eyelashes and a brow pencil in preparation. I am saving on hair products. NO need for hairspray! lol. I will also lose all the other body hair. Yeah!! I won't have to shave my legs for months!!!

When I finish chemo in February, then about 3 months later my hair will start to grow back. I wonder what it will return like? I had black, wavy hair, then I did chemo for my first battle. My hair came back more silver and really curly. I really don't care if it comes back all silver or even white, just as long as it comes back. After all, it's just hair!
